The Sea Beyond: Season 1

This first season of the smash Italian television hit that The New York Times described as “Saved by the Bell” meets “Scared Straight” meets “Gomorrah” meets Skinemax,” focuses on Filippo and Carmine, two teenagers who never expected thier career paths to include doing time in the organized crime stronghold of Naples. Filippo, who comes from a well-off family from the North, has dreams of becoming a musician and Carmine, from a Camorra family, wants to become a famous hairdresser instead of taking up the family business. But their dreams are cut short after committing serious crimes, and they’re detained in a juvenille detention center on an island off the coast of Naples. Will they be strong enough to oppose the attacks from fellow detainee Ciro, the young, up-and-coming crime boss? What chances are there for young love, as Filippo falls for female inmate Naditza? Though the prison director Paola and correctional officer Massimo still try hard to help these “flawed” kids, the boys and girls behind bars are often left to fend for themselves. What they share though is a beautiful view over the sea – beyond their present circumstances toward a future in which their dreams may come true.
